Anren county where is a significant marketable grain base of China is with rich Shennong culture. Anren Ganfenshe, Rice Field Park, and some other agricultural items were highly recommended by local people on the process of selection of “ten cultural symbols of China”.

At the beginning, 103 nominees as Anren rice sculpture, Shennong Temple, shaking chili, and etc. were recommended by local people. 15 of them were reviewed by experts as the final representatives of Anren cultural symbols for final voting.
As introduced by Xie Qiaosen who is Deputy Director of Anren Propaganda Department that the public selection process has been finished and 10 of them were confirmed by the experts.

According to the legend, Emperor Yan- Shenong once led 8 followers to travel around Anren and taste hundreds of herbals there. They also taught local people the knowledge of herbal medicines and irrigation. In order to memorize Shennong, the herbal medicine merchants from Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and other provinces gathered together to celebrate “Ganfenshe” in Anren county during the Spring Equinox.

Chen Hehuan who is the Director of Anren Shennong Culture Research Center said: “Ganfenshe is with rich Shennong culture. It lasts for over one thousand years without stop, which indicates that it is already be rooted in people’s mind.”
Besides the thousand-year-old Ganfenshe, Rice Field Park is also one of the new cultural name cards of Anren county.

It is an “agricultural wetland park” with the functions of agricultural demonstration, irrigation, science popularization, tourism view seeing, leisure entertainment, and etc.

In recent years, supported by the fame of “Ganfenshe”, Anren county kept handling cole flower festival and some other activities regularly, which also helped to popularize the fame of Rice Field Park.

Li Qionglin who is the Vice Chairman of Anren County CPPCC and Anren Literary Federation said: “It is the first trying in China to improve rice fields as an ecological wetland and scenery, as well as an experiment to implement Chairman Xi’s speech on landscape.”
