Fluorite is a common mineral in nature and can coexist with many other minerals. It occurs in many places in the world and has five effective varieties. The main component is CaF2.

The crystal of fluorite is octahedron and cube. The crystal is glassy, bright and brittle, with Mohs hardness of 4, melting point of 1360 ℃ and complete cleavage. Some samples can emit light under the conditions of friction, heating and ultraviolet radiation.

The mineral comes from volcanic magma. In the cooling process of magma, the gas-water solution separated by magma contains fluorine. In the process of solution rising along the fracture, the fluorine ion in gas-water solution combines with calcium ion in surrounding rock to form calcium fluoride, which forms fluorite after cooling and crystallization. It exists in granite, pegmatite and syenite.

It is not often used as a gem because it is brittle and soft. In industry, fluorite is the main source of fluorine, which can extract and prepare fluorine and its various compounds. The specimens with bright color and beautiful crystal form can be used for collection, decoration and carving.
