88,000mu Tea Planting Areas Assist for People’s Increase of Income

Wei Changming who used to be a forester started his tea planting business after learning the favorable policies on tea industry issued by Guidong county. At the very first beginning, he worked together with other 120 villagers to operate a 1100mu tea garden and yield with over 0.20 million yuan income annually, two times more than when he worked as a forester. Due to this good result, Wei led the villagers to expand their tea planting business accordingly.

 

As one of the key supporting projects handled out by Guidong county to enrich people, 10 million yuan special funds were placed on tea industry in Guidong county with different manners annually, especially on the construction of tea planting base, processing production, brand construction, etc. Qingquan village and Qiaotou village are two featured towns on tea industry, which helped to promote the tea planting businesses and relative industrial chain in some villages around there. It was learned that 88,000mu tea planting base, 12 professional tea cooperatives, and 8 professional tea villages were available in Guidong county now, enrolling over 30,000 villagers involved into this business. The annual tea production capacity was up to 2600tons, accounting for 360 million yuan, which helped to increase the annual average income of 1200yuan. Due to this great achievement, Guidong county became one of the five counties which assisted with special Hunan provincial support on tea industry.

 

It was also reported that some special agricultural training courses concerned for tea planting were carried out by relative departments of Guidong county to upgrade farmers’ technological skills. 12,000 tea farmers benefited with these courses in recent three years. At the meantime, a special follow-up system was figured out by Guidong county to check the tea’s quality from the very first production process. It was purposely to establish an ecological, high quality and efficient tea industry. “Linglong tea” was successfully created to be “national geographical indication product” and its traditional manufacturing process was listed as one of the protection items for Hunan provincial “intangible cultural heritage”.
