Series reports for “Chenzhou city’s establishment of national model city of greening”

The forest inventory of Chenzhou city is 1.384million hectares, accounting for 71% of its total lands, and contributing 67.71% to the forest coverage. The green coverage ratio of the urban built-up areas is 42.4% and green land rate is 40.2%. Per capita public green land areas are 11.08 square meters…… All those data highly indicated the rapid development of Chenzhou city’s forestry and garden, as well as the full affirmation of its titles as “national garden city”, “national forest city”, and “national model city of greening”.

In recent years, Chenzhou city kept the establishment of national model city of greening as the key content of its ecological civilization construction on the basis of its natural advantages and principal of “city in the forest, leisure city”. Series greening projects as reconversion after ice disaster, greening for arterial lines, green city project, 3-year afforestation project, upgrading of forest landscape, and etc. were carried out by Chenzhou city in recent years.
Currently, the forest coverage rate of Chenzhou city is 67.71%.5 national key ecological function areas, one ecological demonstration zone, two natural reserves, 8 forest parks, and 4 wetland parks are available there. All of those help to shape Chenzhou city with new green image.

All people join in the greening work to grant the city with free image in the whole year

Green color is full of the lands in late spring. Buildings, highways, and etc. are amid the green peaks. Thanks to the natural treasures and ecological development concept, the city is shaped with green image.

Chenzhou city placed a large amount of investment on the greening work. It carried out "ecological landscape project" from 2009. Over 2million seedlings of 40 species were planted in the 0.1million mu mountains which were suffered badly from the ice disaster by three phases. From 2010, it carried out 6 phases of "greening project" and two phases of "green shade action". More than 20million seedlings and one million flowers were planted in the streets, slopes, banks, parks, courtyards, and etc. From 2011, it carried out "three-year greening project", and other five projects as urban greening, channel greening, water basin greening, rural greening, and barren mountain greening. During 2011-2015, over 2.11million mu afforestation work was finished in Chenzhou city, fulfilling the target of overall greening of urban and rural areas.

Taking positive actions on greening work on the higher orientation of living condition

"I often have the illusion that I'm now living in my hometown for I'm capable to have the sightseeing of green mountain from window and can enjoy park walking near my community," said 68-old-man Jiang Shengwu who was walking in Beihu Park.

Travelling around the parks distributed in Chenzhou urban areas, people can enjoy the green images everywhere.

From 2009, 64 parks were newly built or reconstructed on the process of its promotion of parks and gardens construction, which helped to facilitate 190 hectares of park green lands and 124 hectares attached green space. Currently, there are 104 parks and gardens (squares, riverside landscape belt, and roadside green space) available in Chenzhou urban area. In the meantime, 200-meter wide ring city protection forest belt connects together with the landscapes, parks, and gardens which helped to shape greening open space in Chenzhou city and materialize the greening standard of “viewing green image on opening window and stepping into gardens” and building small gardens within 300-500meter service radius.

Recovering green images in “sky hole” by applying renovated ideas and concepts

Chenzhou city kept pursuing green image of the city. Based on the great achievements on greening of roads, parks, and barren peaks, Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Chenzhou Government decided to adjust the strategic targets of “ecology Chenzhou” and carried out series boutique projects as “enhancing national forest city”. Quarries, mines, and wind power plants were covered into the project of comprehensive recovery of green image.
 

When reporters arrived at the quarry of Shajiang village, Suxian district, the barren peak looks like a huge “sky hole” after continuous mining in last years. It was learned that the quarry is near the junction of Jingguang railway and Chenzhou Nan exit of Xiarong expressway. This barren “sky hole” looks like a scar stained in the arterial traffic.

As introduced by Huang Cheng who is one of the staffs of Finance Department of Chenzhou Forestry Bureau, the treatment of sky hole is one of great projects tried by forestry department. According to the plan, some concrete plant slots would be set in the precipice of the sky hole to cultivate some vines. Grass, bush, pinus massoniana, eucalyptus, and different species would be planted on the sky hole for handling three-dimensional afforesting there.

“4.80million yuan special funds were designated for the treatment of 4 sky holes surrounded Chenzhou urban area, which is the first case handled by Chenzhou city. Once all the slots were done, we can plant seeds there. The achievements gained via this project would be populated in the whole city in future,” introduced by Huang Cheng. All reporters were looking forward to seeing the complete new green image in future.
