Luo Yan

Luo Yan is a national first-class actor, a member of China Dramatists Association, a member of China Kunqu Opera Guqin Research Association, and Chairman of Chenzhou Dramatists Association. She is currently Head and Party Branch Secretary of the Hunan Kunqu Opera Troupe. She studied under Sun Yihua and Wen Julin, and was personally taught by Kunqu performing artists such as Ma Xianglin, Fang Chuanyun, Zhang Xian, Hao Mingchao, Zhang Fupeng, Cai Yaoming and Wang Fengmei.

 

She starred in the "Stop The Horse", "The Eight Immortals Cross The Sea", "Travelling in the Garden", "The Dream Interrupted", "Dreamland Revisited", "Zhaojun Departs the Frontier", "Playing The Zither", "Wusong Killing Sister-in-law", "Borrowing Fan", "Longing For the Mortal World", "Pavilion Club", "Hidden Boat" and so on, many of them have become outstanding performances of Kunqu Opera.

In 1984, she won the title of outstanding young actor in Hunan province.

 

In the summer of 1994, she won the "Excellent Orchid Performance Award" in the first National Kunqu Opera Young Actor Exchange performance. In the same year,she was awarded the "Excellent Performance Award" by Hunan New Drama for her role in the new historical play "Missing Fog up the House", rehearsed by the troupe.

 

In 1996, the Hunan Provincial Cultural Department held the second Provincial Youth Opera Actor TV Grand Prix in Changsha and held a special performance of "Hibiscus Award" at the same time. She was awarded the Golden Prize of the TV Grand Prix for Young Drama Actors and the "Hibiscus Award" for Hunan Drama performance.

 

In 1997 and 2002, she was invited to take part in the performance recording work of the Spring Festival Gala of the Ministry of Culture, and played Du Liniang in "Peony Pavilion·Travelling in the Garden" and Yang Guifei in the "Palace of Eternal Youth".

 

In 2002, she was admitted to the third postgraduate class of outstanding young actors in Beijing Opera of Academy of Chinese Traditional Opera. During the three-year study period of the graduate class, she studied traditional operas such as Kunqu Opera "Broken Bridges", "Debate Injustice", Beijing Opera "Drunken Imperial Concubine", "Farewell My Concubine", "Sitting Palace" and "Top Matchmaker" from Beijing Kunqu tutors Zhang Xupeng, Cai Yaoming, Ai Meijun and Cai Yinglian, and also studied the organic combination of scientific vocal methods and opera singing from Tang Yincheng, a professor of opera vocal music.

 

In 2005, the Hunan Grand Theatre in Changsha, in cooperation with the Provincial Symphony Orchestra, successfully held a large-scale individual opera classical aria concert graduate report performance.

 

In 2011, She participated in the Suzhou Kunshan "Chinese Kunqu Opera Classic Drama Show" sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, and the performance of "Women's Pellet", winning unanimous praise from experts and scholars. In the same year, she won the first Choir Award for the first Hunan Zhuzhou Chorus Festival.
