Snowscape of Longjing Canyon

Longjing Canyon is located in Wutong village where is in the upper right of Dongjiang dam dock. It is about 2.5kms long from Shuikoulong to Longjing. On this 2.5kms trip, visitors can enjoy the mountain scenery of steep and green mountain, ancient trees, original secondary forest, and etc.; and can enjoy the waterscape of clear streams and group of falls. There are 18 falls and 26 pools concealed in the canyon. Shuikoulong fall which is one of the most famous falls of it is about 100meters high and 20meters wide. But because of the higher reservoir water level, it is just 10 meters high now. Another fall which is about 100meters away from Shuikoulong fall drops from Dongqing road. Its elegant shape looks like white silk.

According to the legend, Dongjiang was used to be a large lake in ancient times. The dragon staff of Taishanglaojun (one of supreme gods of Taoism) transformed to be a dragon and did evil in Dongjiang lake which badly affected local people’s daily life. A good dragon which practiced in Longjing Sangu mountain fought against with that evil dragon for 7 days and drove it away. But the good dragon died from exhaustion and turned to be Longjing.

The sound of falls is like songs, the water looks so beautiful, and the sound of spring is so touching, all visitors can feel relaxed and happy on their trip among the falls. It was introduced that it is also with high level anions that enables it to be famous as “natural oxygen bar”. According to the result disclosed by Tourism Research Center of Central South Forestry Technology University that the anion content of Longjing Canyon is 93600pcs/㎝3 which is very healthy.

About 1km away from the canyon is Ridge Mountain where is full of rare, delicate and dangerous peculiar stone sceneries. It is full of granites with different shapes and sizes and extends to the bottom of the valley. It is called as “Thunder God stone” or “wind stone” by local people. In September, 2003, Qu Longbin who was the inspector of Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee Standing Committee and former Secretary of Zixing Municipal Party Committee collected some funds to engrave Professor He Guorui’s poem- “climbing to the rooftop” on the “wind stone” and engrave Professor Hu Yunfu’s calligraphy “山奇石秀”(means peculiar mountain and delicate stone) on another group of stone. General Li Duo’ calligraphy “擎天石”(means skyscraper stone) was engraved in the cliff of Dongjiang Dam. The 4-meter big words are easily to be seen in sunny day.
